वीर सुरेन्द्र साईं हवाई अड्डा, झारसुगुड़ा का उद्घाटन 22 सितंबर 2018 को भारत के माननीय प्रधान मंत्री द्वारा किया गया था। भारतीय विमानपत्तन प्राधिकरण द्वारा ओडिशा राज्य सरकार के साथ समन्वय करके एयरबस -320 के संचालन के लिए इस हवाईअड्डे का विकास किया गया था। वीएसएस हवाई अड्डा, झारसुगुड़ा को आरसीएस ऑपरेशन, जो भारत सरकार की एक योजना है, के लिए भी चुना गया है।
