I want to specifically mention about two things at the Chennai International Airport. Both services I availed at the airport seems like they are not salaried. 1) Speedwings Services - On September 4th, 2024, I was approached by Speedwings personnel who offered assistance with my luggage for a fee of Rs. 2500, which was later reduced to Rs. 2000. Two of the staffs(ladies with Speedwings services uniform) joined us till baggage drop. Despite paying the amount, I was asked to tip the staff(ladies) separately, as they were allegedly not salaried(mentioned by speedwings attendant who billed for the service). This practice was not only misleading but also lacked transparency regarding the fees and the extent of services provided. What Im wondering is, why did I even pay speedwings services(Rs.2000) then? The staff, dressed in Speedwings uniforms, only assisted with moving the luggage to the baggage drop as their service terminates there and another person will join till gate from security and the ladies insisted on additional tips for further help till gate(tip for the next person who joins us till gate from security). No invoice was provided for the transaction, and the expectation for tipping was not communicated upfront. This experience left me questioning the legitimacy of the service and the employment terms of the staff. AAI should look into this matter stop this scam from happening. Are they really not salaried? Why are they even wearing the so called speedwings uniform and working all night without salary and relying just on tips from passengers? 2) Toilet facilities - If i recollect I was at gate 9B(Terminal 4) on 4th September, 2024. I used the toilet by the side before the flight boarding time(British Airways). The responsibility of the staff is to ensure, the toilet is neat and clean. Instead the attendant was focussed on soliciting tips from passengers using the toilet rather than ensuring the cleanliness of the facilities. I was there and he saluted me(indirectly asking for money) and I said Im travelling abroad and I dont have a lot of INR. He then asked me if I need change(look at the audacity). He was prepared and kept the change ready. Despite my explanation that I was traveling abroad and had limited INR, the attendant persisted, indirectly insisting on a tip and even offering change to facilitate this as I did not have the required currency to offer him. This experience was not only uncomfortable but also detracted from the professional atmosphere. I believe that such behavior should be addressed to ensure it does not become a recurring issue for other passengers.
