Silchar Airport

Silchar Airport is a Civil Enclave, built during the World War II. The ATC Service is being provide by the Indian Air Force. The airport is situated on the foothills of the beautiful Barail Hill range.Silchar Airport is the 2nd busiest airport (70 civilian flights/week) in Assam and 4th busiest in North east after Guwahati, Agartala and Imphal and handles approximately 200,000 PAX yearly. At present Air India, Jet Airways & Spice Jet are the only schedule airlines operating at Silchar Airport ,providing connectivity to Kolkata, Guwahati. Spice Jet has started operation at Silchar Airport from 04th October 2016, providing connectivity to Kolkata & Guwahati.

Silchar is located on the southern bank of the Barak River is an important commercial hub of the state. Silchar acts as a gateway to Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur. The town plays a pivotal role in the supply of essential commodities to these states. Several organizations & institution like Assam university, medical college, National Institute of Technology, All India Radio & TV station has helped the city grow in importance. Lakhipur the richest pine-apple growing area in the country is located again on the bank of Barak.

Silchar is the headquarters of Cachar district in the state of Assam in India. It is 343 kilometres (213 mi) south east of Guwahati. It is the second-largest city of the state in terms of population and municipal area.
