Brief About Airport Rescue & Firefighting Services

Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) services are providing the level of protection at 66 airports to meet the operational requirements as per norms and guidelines of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) & International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

AAI Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services always make continuous efforts to achieve the mission of the organization i.e. “To enhance air connectivity across the nation and be an environmentally conscious sustainable organization using the state of the art and indigenous technology for cost-effective, modern, safe airport operations and air navigation services”.

AAI Fire Services is managing two fire training establishments viz. AAI Fire Training Institute, New Delhi Centre and AAI Fire Training Institute, Kolkata Centre which are having state-of-the-art training facilities and are responsible to deliver world-class training to aviation fire personnel.

Objective

The principal objective of AAI Airport Rescue & Firefighting (ARFF) Services is to save lives in the event of an aircraft accident or incident occurring at, or in the immediate vicinity of, an airport. The AAI ARFF is provided to create and maintain survivable conditions, to provide egress routes for occupants and to initiate the rescue of those occupants unable to make their escape without direct aid.

Functional Key Areas

ARFF Services is involved in various activities such as providing the requisite Level of Fire Protection for aircraft operations, handling aircraft incidents & accidents as well as fire prevention & protection of the Airport terminal building and other vital Installations.

  1. Provide requisite Level of Fire Protection for Aircraft operations.
  2. Handling of aircraft incidents & accidents as well as fire prevention & protection of airport terminal buildings and other vital installations.
  3. Liaising with mutual aid agencies at the airport, State Government & Private Organizations.
  4. Planning & Conducting Full Scale Emergency Exercise, Table Top Exercise, Building Evacuation Drills etc.
  5. Planning, organizing and utilisation of resources.
  6. Impart various training to aviation fire personnel at AAI Fire Training Establishments.
  7. Planning & assessing training requirements and infrastructure.
