With a built-up area of 30,000 sq. metres, the new terminal building has been designed to handle 1,000 domestic and 200 international passengers during peak hours and will be equipped with all modern amenities.

There are separate parking areas replete with lush green surroundings for parking 150 cars and a separate bus stand which can accommodate 10 buses at a time. Construction of multi-level parking also in pipeline.

In addition to the New Terminal building, two new Taxiways, Hangar for A-321, new Isolation Bay, CISF Barrack, E & M Workshop and new operational boundary wall have also been constructed at a cost of around Rs. 113.00 crores.

New Apron can accommodate Flights Airbus A321, ATR, Bombardier and other non-schedule flights also.

A new Cargo Terminal at Agartala is also under construction with one time holding capacity of 40,150 MT and is likely to be complete soon at an estimated cost of Rs. 14.50 crore. This will act as a catalyst for the speedy movement of the goods and produce including perishable items.

In order to have clean and green source of energy, AAI has taken up a project in collaboration with NTPC for erection of Solar Power Plant of 2.0 MW capacity and contract for the same has already been awarded by NTPC. Upon operationalization of this Solar Power Plant, this Airport will run entirely on green energy with net metering facility with Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).

Keeping the fluidity of the façade, the Building has been incorporated with landscape areas inside the building which provide relief space for the passengers. The free-flowing form has been further accentuated at arrival and departure areas, with courtyards on either end of the terminal, and green cover and open spaces allowing light to enter the terminal, lighting it from within with natural glare-free light. The design approach incorporates sustainability at its core with attention to reducing the role of artificial lighting systems and respecting the solar movement.

A sprawling greenery of about 20,000 sq. metres in front of the Terminal building beautifies the landscape and edifies the green tag given to the state of Tripura.
