Mata ni pachedi
An ancient form of art, Mata Ni Pachedi literally means "behind the Mother Goddess", and is the cloth from which the temple of the Goddess is made. This fabric mural was created for Rajkot Airport by traditional Mata Ni Pachedi artisans, people of the nomadic Vaghari community of Gujarat.
This mural, made on cotton fabric using natural colors, is also an example of sustainability. Pachedi is essentially the expression of the divine cosmic energy of the Mother Goddess and the integrated embodiment of the creative and destructive principles in her personality.
The most important feature of the sacred garment is always the imposing presence of the Mother Goddess; It is believed that the Goddess has a hundred forms and hence each of them is depicted with appropriate iconographic details and attributes. It was always highlighted with clear ornate borders. This Pachedi mural contains more than 50 motifs of goddesses of different castes and supplementary motifs.
