                                    Located at Babatpur, approximately 26 km northwest of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport is an important international gateway to eastern Uttar Pradesh and a key hub for religious, cultural, and tourism traffic.The airport handled over 40 Lakh passengers during 2024-25, ranking among the th th 20 -25 busiest airports in India and the second busiest in Uttar Pradesh.In recognition of its service quality and operational efficiency, the airport was awarded Best Airport in Asia-Pacific (2-5 million passengers per annum category) by Airports Council International in 2020.The airport provides seamless access to major religious destinations, includingShri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, and Shri Kal Bhairav Mandir, all located within a 24-25 km radius.Presently, an integrated terminal of 25,000 sqm caters to both domestic and international operations, offering modern passenger amenities, check-in, immigration and customs facilities, aerobridges, retail outlets showcasing local products, and a VIPlounge.The airport has a single Runway (09/27) of 2745m with supporting taxiways and an apron capable of accommodating up to 10 A-321 type of aircraft simultaneously.To meet growing traffic demand, major infrastructure expansion is underway, including runway extension to 4075m, construction of new apron and rapid exit taxiways, and development of parallel and link taxi tracks.A new terminal building of 75646 sqm with an annual handling capacity of 60 Lakh passengers is under construction and scheduled for completion by July 2027, with a total project investment of approximately %u20b92,870 crore.Airport FilesISSUE 50 | December 2025 AAIConnect 5Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, VaranasiExisting T New Terminal Building erminal
