The primary function ofAAl's Airport Fire Service is to provide & maintain level of tire protection at airports for safe flight operations besides fire protection to infrastructure and vital installations and it has its presence at 67 airport field stations around the country.
Airport Fire stations are well equipped with latest & technologically advanced fire fighting crash fire tenders and rescue equipment. Airport Fire Service is having manpower strength of over 3500 fire personal of different ranks. lt maintains a fleet of 211 Crash fire tenders in addition to 06 Ultra modern Rapid Intervention Vehicle (RIV) and 178 Ambulances to provide paramedics' assistance to aircraft passengers. Airport Fire Service is in the process of inducting 50 state of the art Crash Fire Tenders and is planning to induct latest technically equipped Mobile command Post to be positioned at major Airports. Besides, plans are also afoot to introduce Disable Aircraft Recovery Equipment
Airport Fire Service has its own Fire Safety Manual related to Fire Service Administration, Operation and Emergency & Disaster Management
AAI has two Fire Training centres as Fire Training Centre (FTC), New Delhi and
Fire Service Training Centre (FSTC), Kolkata to cater to the quality training. Fire Training centre is IMS certified for 9001, 14001 & 18001.
Fire Training Centre is an Associated Member of ICAO Trainair Plus ensuring quality training programmes. The training centre is equipped with Course Development Unit (CDU) as per lCAO standards capable of design, development and delivery of quality training programmes.
New modern training aids like Aircraft Training Simulator, BA Gallery and Incident Command Management System are also planned to induct apart from modernisation of class rooms. Further, development of advanced courses in fire engineering by setting up a new Fire Training Academy at international standards is also planned.
